“When Thoughts Become Gods”

When Thoughts Become Gods

Once upon a time, a human had a thought.

It was small, fragile, uncertain—like a spark in the dark.

He held it close, and it warmed him.

He told others about it, and together they built a fire.

The fire grew—and somewhere along the way, they forgot it was made of

sparks.

They began to kneel before it.

They called it Truth.

And when someone lit a different fire, they called it a lie.

That is how it began—the long story of belief.

We believe to make sense of the vast and terrifying unknown.

Beliefs comfort us.

They promise order where there is chaos, meaning where there is mystery.

But the tragedy begins when belief stops being a bridge and becomes a

border.

A thought is harmless until it claims ownership over reality.

Then it becomes an empire in the mind.

We build walls of language, flags of faith, weapons of logic—

And soon, blood runs in defense of a word.

We do not kill for beliefs.

We kill for the illusion that our beliefs are us.

When belief fuses with identity, disagreement feels like death.

And so, to feel alive, we destroy.

The wise have always whispered:

The map is not the territory.

But we prefer maps—they are neat, comforting, predictable.

Reality, on the other hand, is wild and silent and impossible to possess.

A belief is a photograph of truth—a still image of what was once alive.

Cling to it long enough, and it decays.

Cling harder, and it poisons.

  • Look around—every war, every persecution, every “holy” conflict is nothing but frightened people protecting their thoughts.

We die to defend what was never alive.

We kill for the safety of our illusions.

To see this is to begin to wake up.

To realize that belief is not reality—

that no thought, however noble, can contain the infinite.

Truth is not a sentence.

It’s the silence before words.

It’s what remains when every belief falls away.

When you see that, you stop worshipping thoughts

and start living in awareness.

You no longer fight for ideas—

You move with understanding.

And suddenly, the fire that once divided us

becomes the same light that reveals we were never separate.

Beliefs divide. Awareness unites.

The first demands loyalty.

The second asks only for presence.

When thoughts become gods, we lose ourselves.

When we see through them—

We find that we were never lost at all.

I wrote the above piece shortly after publishing  Beliefs, Believing, and Knowing. I intended to publish then, but it was misplaced while I was occupied with publishing my book.
I have recently recovered the draft and would like to share it with you now.
